Message From The Past President
April 15, 2011
Ladies and Gentlemen of the Western Regional Chapter of IAATI,
As the 2010/2011 President of the Western Regional Chapter, I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and tell you what an honor it is to be associated with this chapter and with IAATI.
In addition to being your President, I am a current Director on the IAATI Board and a Past President of the Colorado Auto Theft Investigators, CATI. I retired from law enforcement after 37 years, the last 36 having been spent with the Westminster Colorado Police Department. After having worked various other assignments, I settled into motor vehicle theft and stayed there for the past 23 years. In my experience, I found motor vehicle theft detectives and investigators to be some of the most resourceful and sharing law enforcement professionals to be involved with. This leads me to two very important tenets of being a good detective or investigator: being active in your motor vehicle theft association and sharing of information.
I encourage you to join and to be active in your local association. You will find that your fellow members possess decades of information and are more than willing to share it with you. Additionally, you will find that they give the information unconditionally and want nothing more than to see the successful end to your case. The same will be found with your regional chapter and IAATI as a whole. It's as simple as a phone call or an email. Also, for those of us who have been involved with these types of investigations for any length of time, it is our responsibility to introduce this area of police work to other officers that may be interested so as to keep the "craft" alive and strong.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the WRC Board members and Directors for creating a strong organization that has stood the test of time. There was a time when the organization seemed somewhat fragmented, but past officers have seen to it that the WRC will be around for a long time. I have some very big shoes to fill.
It is the beginning of a new year and time to renew your local organization and IAATI dues. For those of you that have done so already, thank you. If you have not, please give serious consideration and think of the valuable training and information that you have received through your membership. Think also of the resources available to you through your memberships also. One of those is the File Library located on the IAATI website that contains an extensive array of informative articles and documents. Take the time to look at it and if you have any suggestions that would make it better, please contact me at either my WRC or IAATI email address.
Have a good year and remember, Join, Participate and Share.
